Q: G5 + new iPod Touch = impossible?

I just bought a brand new iPod Touch for my wife, and overlooked the obvious: the iPod is not compatible with her G5 (the iPod requires OS X 10.6 and up, and the G5 is limited to 10.5.8) Is there any possible workaround, or am I doomed to return her gift?

You can't sync that device, but can download content directly from Apple's servers to it.

Sorry to ask, but I'm unclear: do you mean that she could, for example, upload the contents from her iTunes library to the cloud, and download it that way, without syncing?

Yes. iTunes Store purchases will normally already be in the cloud; putting content from other sources there requires signing up for iTunes Match.
