For those still having issues, please try the following:

Open Finder > Go (top menu bar) > Computer

Macintosh HD > Library > Preferences

    Delete: com.apple.Bluetooth.plist

Start the BT pairing process again.

I tried everything in other posts and threads.  Finally come to this solution.  Tried it and now I have smooth bluetooth on my MBPr.  I have Sony Bluetooth sound canceling overear headphones.  They worked perfectly on other devices like my ipad and iphone.  But with the MBPr it was so choppy i couldn't use them at all.  I tried changing numbers in Terminal.  Cranked the numbers to 40, then to 80 with other advice.  Nothing worked until I deleted the com.apple.Bluetooth.plist file as instructed.  I rebooted and then reconnected my headphones and it now works perfectly.

THANK YOU.  I WAS GOING NUTS TRYING TO GET STUTTERING TO END.

    Hey,

Thank you very much for this, I've been unable to use my bluetooth headphones since updating to Yosemite. This "fix" worked a treat! Using Philips SHB7000.

    I owe you a pint!

I tried everything I could think of, including the many tips in forums, to try and get my bluetooth headphones appear in the mackbook bluetooth preferences, to no avail.

I put it down to a compatability problem with my headphones (LS Manhattan) and OSX.

They connected without any problem on my iphone so why woulldn't they connect to my laptop? and there was the answer to my problem staring me in the face!!  When I started up bluetooth on my macbook my headphones quickly connected to my iphone so all I had to do was disconnect the headphones on my iphone and bingo they appeared in the macbook bluetooth preferences!!!

Simples.  I hope it works for you.

Check this post by SONY.  Worked for me

    Using a Mac® Operating System X

    1. Press the POWER button on the headphones to enter pairing mode.
      • Press the button for 2 seconds if this computer is the first Bluetooth device you are pairing to the headphones.
      • Press the button for 7 seconds if this computer is the second Bluetooth device you are pairing to the headphones.

I've been trying to figure this out forever. I did exactly what you said and it worked!!! In case anyone else makes the same mistake I did, "hold for exactly 7 seconds" implies that you should let go after that lol. THANKS SO MUCH!!
