MacBook Pro running very slow

Hi there,

Hoping someone can help. My is very slow in all things. i.e. slow to start up, shut down, respond to keystrokes or the mouse/clicker. I think the longest it took to open an application was about 3.5 minutes. Sometimes it stops responding altogether. I saw on a previous thread where it was suggested to run Etrecheck and post results. My results are below.

Thanks in advance for any and all assistance.

Problem description:

Something is using too much RAM. I recommend starting by deleting ALL the TrendMicro stuff. Restart the computer and test for a while. The memory pressure should go down it that was the problem. Run another Etrecheck report after you delete the Trend Micro items and use the computer for about a half day.

I agree with Alan Jones.

Get rid of Trendmicro stuff (restart after that), does not run well in Yosemite (and not even in earlier systems). Perhaps post a new Etrecheck list after you have done that: to see if there are remnants.

It may also be that you have no need for Java: open the Java Applet in the SystemPreferences and uncheck "Enable Java". See what it does.

I've uninstalled Trend Micro and re run etrecheck. I did look at Java in system pref and it says its enabled in the browser. Do I disable it there? Here's this mornings etrecheck results.

Good Morning!: where are you? it is after 5 PM here..

1. Java: no that is Javascript. That is something else, and can stay allowed in Safari.

You must disable in the Java applet.

2. Somehow you have still Huawei software running: HWPortDetect and HW_CreateNetwork. This is not compatible and sloppy programmed. If you have a Huawei modem, I am not sure what to do, if you do not have a Huawei modem uninstall it.

3. In Safari->Preferences->Extensions uninstall the two Trendmicro extensions.

4. MacintoshHD->Library->InternetPlug-Ins delete the DirectorShockwave plugin.

5. MacintoshHD->Library->LaunchAgents delete the ..amazon.sendtokindle... plist. Not necessary to download kindle books.

6. There are more softwares that are not compatible I think: fitbit, galileo, wacom, nike, rockysandstudio, ConsumerTouch. Consider uninstalling them.

7. Restart.

New etrecheck list please, and post your experience now.

@ Lex, I'm in the US. It's only 10am here. Where are you?

This will take a while. I don't even recognize some of the software mentioned especially the modem....Wacom is for drawing so i'll most likely keep that one.

PS...my idea of festivities is to stay at home with the fam, eat snacks, watch tv, pop the cork on a cheap bottle bubbly at midnight, and then go to sleep.🙂

I am in Switzerland, Davos (on the Austrian border).

Let's go on tomorrow morning, I am changing now into some real clothes for dinner.... and yes the whole family (10). Grand Cru Bordeaux wine at the moment.

Wacom may not be Yosmite proof. Can you check that?.

There must already be some relief now.

Morning Lex! so, I deleted/uninstalled Java applet, and send to kindle(which was a pain-took 3 tries) and some of the other stuff. I've left the wacom(drawing tablet), nike(its for the fuelband band-a fitness thing), the fitbit-also a fitness thing for work,. However after doing all this the etrecheck now hangs up at checking software(or checking kernel extensions per its log) so i'm not sure what to do now. I did reboot, shut down completely and start, and delete , restart, reinstall etrechecker and still hangs up in the same place...

Well, wacom, nike, fitbid, ConsumerTouch are either not ready for Yosemite or you should update them because they are responsible for the crashes....

Uninstall them, restart and then install one, see what it does, then the next one.... So you will see which one starts to make issues, then uninstall and start the next one, and so on.

I am pretty sure that you will agree.

How about the Huawei software???

If you really really need the fitness software, you might consider going back to Mavericks (if that was issue free).

Morning Lex!

ok, i'll delete them. Fitbit i can use on my phone. As for the Huawei software...I have no idea what it is or how it became installed(i'm sure I did it, i just don't recall) but since i'm completely wireless i'm sure i can delete it. As soon as I figure out what "it" is lol.. ok, off to complete my assignment. I'll post again as soon as etrecheck works again. Thanks a bunch.

For the huawei software:

Normally it sits in the SystemPreferences as a "third party preference pane". Not here though.

Before looking for it in a search tool do following:

In Finder Go to MacintoshHD->Library->StartupItems and there move HWPortdetect and HW_CreateNetwork to the desktop (to keep for the names). Then Restart, they will not run anymore.

so, i thought i got everything but i can see that i didn't. I had to do some manipulation to get etrecheck to work. It would hang on my admin login but work on my non admin log in so i made both admins. Here ya go.
