Unstable WiFi

I have a MacBook Pro with 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7 and 4GB 1333 MHz DDR3. I have OSX Version 10.9.5. Th WiFi on my Mac has a variety of problems at different times. The WiFi will switch between hotspots (several times a day), go completely off (occasionally), be on but cannot go to a website (occasionally), or acts slowly although have high speed connection (often). Can anybody make some recommendations? For example, I currently have a connections at 2.5 MPS but I wasn't sure if I could get to this community to post a problem because I couldn't get a webpage at all. By the way, I am operating remotely from a campground. This occurs while on the campground wifi or on my iPhone.
