Q: iCloud Keychain approval - wrong SMS country code

I'm going around in circles.

 

I'm trying to setup iCloud Keychain and no matter how I do it, when I get the confirmation message that a code has been sent to my mobile - it's wrong. It says +61 ********** (Australia) when it should say +64******** (New Zealand). I've gone into my iCloud security and Apple ID settings and my mobile number there is correct. I've never setup a phone in Australia so really can't see how this has happened - but the point it it has and I can't get it to change.

 

My iPhone is a 6, running 8.1.2.

    Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

     

    To ensure you can receive the verification code for iCloud Keychain via SMS, please check your settings as outlined below to ensure your phone number is correct.

     

    I'm not receiving the verification code via SMS.

    1. Make sure that you have a strong cellular network connection on your phone.
    2. Make sure that your phone number can receive SMS messages. You can do this by asking someone to send you a text message.
    3. Make sure that the correct phone number is associated with your account:
      • In iOS 8, tap Settings > iCloud > Keychain > Advanced. In iOS 7, tap Settings > iCloud > Account > Keychain. Make sure the phone number under Verification Number is correct. If not, enter another phone number.
      • In OS X Mavericks v10.9, choose Apple () > System Preferences. Click iCloud, then click Account Details. Make sure the phone number under Verification number is correct. If not, enter another phone number.

    If you can't access a device that has iCloud Keychain enabled, contact Apple Support and verify your identity to get help completing iCloud Keychain setup.

    Hi Alex

     

    Thanks, in the meantime I found an article that showed me how to approve it without SMS which has worked for me. I'm still keen to know why my number has the country code though in case it is a problem in the future so I'll contact apple.
