when I select a region and type 'm' the whole selected track is muted

Muting a selected region results in the whole selected track being muted.

I'm a new user of Logic X. I opened a project created with Logic 9, saved the X version, and am working with it now. I notice that when I select a region in the tracks area and press 'M', the whole currently selected track (not necessarily the track with the selected region) is muted. I notice also that whenever I select a track, the record button comes on, which is not always my intention. I don't know if the two problems are related. Is this a bug? I don't see anything in project setting that could effect muting behavior.

Thx, Michael

In LPX with the LPX Key Command Preset selected...Control + M mutes a region...

if you wish to use the older style LP9 key Commands, change to the LP9 preset in the Menu Bar Option... Logic Pro X > Key Commands > Presets >Logic 9

Note: This apparently only appears if you have Logic Pro 9 installed on the same computer.

I notice also that whenever I select a track, the record button comes on

Red R on Grey Backgound when selecting a track is normal behavior these days...

Hi Michael,

I agree.... That works if you are using the LP9 key command set in LPX but not the new LPX key command set...

Note: The online User Guide for LPX has that section corrected... which is why i tend to rely on the online version rather than the downloaded one...

Mute individual regions

Do one of the following:

  • Select the Mute tool, then click the regions you want to mute.
  • Select the regions, then select the Mute checkbox in the Region inspector.
  • Select the regions, then press Control–M.

Muted regions appear gray in the Tracks area, for easy identification.

Followed by, in the Mute Track section...

Mute a track when the Mute buttons are hidden

Use the Toggle Track Mute key command (M) to mute and unmute a track.

Thx much, Art. Please note that the Logic X User Guide should be corrected to reflect the new way of muting regions. From page 303:

Mute and solo regions in the Tracks area

You can mute one or more regions in the Tracks area to exclude them from playback. You can

also solo individual regions, to hear them in isolation, and lock the solo status of regions.

Mute individual regions

Do one of the following:

-

Select the Mute tool, then click the regions you want to mute.

-

Select the regions, then select the Mute checkbox in the Region inspector.

-

Select the regions, then press M

However, my quote was from the online http://manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1648/en_US/logic_pro_x_user_guide.p df . Maybe the PDF version hasn't been synced with the latest?

Yes.. that's the old download PDF version.. The real online version I linked to, is much more up to date it seems...

Also, I do have Logic 9 on my computer, but there is no Logic 9 option in Logic Pro X > Key Commands > Presets. There are only language options.

Umm.. that is odd... I think it was CCT who informed me that the LP9 option under presets apppears if you have LP9 installed on your Mac....

Maybe, if he reads this, he can confirm?

It should look like this....

Nope, no Logic 9 option. You would think that the presence of Logic 9 on the computer alone wouldn't be enough to make its key command set available for importing into Logic X - somewhere along the line there would have to be an export, though I don't know how to do it.

You would also think that mighty Apple Corp. could do a better job of document control.

Best, Michael
