Control + Scroll to Zoom Not Working With MacBook Trackpad

Holding down control and scrolling with my MacBook's trackpad is not zooming.

I have never tried this before, but it is enabled in keyboard and mouse preferences with control set as the key to hold. Zoom is enabled in Universal Access preferences.

Black MacBook, Mac OS X (10.4.8), 2.0GHz, 1GB RAM, 120GB HD

For me doing CTRL + trackpad scroll used to increase the magnification in Word and Excel. and now when I do that the whole screen zooms and the resolution is horrible.
I don't know why it started doing this, I didn't change any settings. I did a OS update recently, maybe that affected it?

Is "Use two fingers to scroll" enabled in the System Preferences > Keyboard & Mouse > Trackpad tab?

yes, but zooming while holding control and scrolling still doesn't work.

Regardless of weather I scroll up, down, left, right, or any combination, no zooming occurs. If I try this while in a scrollable window, the window scrolls instead. If I try this while in the finder while no windows are open, nothing happens at all.

I had this problem but have found the solution!

One of the updates i got about a month or so ago put a new function to zoom the screen (before it was just word or adobe etc) so you need to go to System Preferences and turn off the system zooming. It's under 'Keyboard and mouse' -- 'Trackpad' -- and uncheck the 'Zoom while holding...' option.

Zooming in on your documents should be back to normal.
Well, that's what the problem was for my iBook anyway, I'm guessing its the same with MacBooks.

Completely reformatting my hard drive, installing Leopard, and copying back my files from a backup disk enabled the zooming.
