Q: sent mail with attachments missing

I noticed yesterday that several messages I sent with Mail (virginmedia is my esp) did not appear in my sent box.  It usually works ok.

I think they were all messages with attachments.  I think they did actually send, but I have no record of them which is a problem.

I've not updated or changed anything.

Any suggestions?  I'm not very technically savvy...

    Hi,

If you have the option check the Web version of their mail system and see if they appear there.

For people who know the Mail App better than I do they will need to know if it is a POP or IMAP account.

    Happy new year.

Don't think I have the web version, and I believe it's an IMAP account

So the emails are not in the sent folder of virginmedia web mail either.  Seems very dd.  I checked and they were received but no been 'saved' in the sent folder.  I did some googling and there are lots of forum posts on this topic suggesting some sort of bug with mac mail, but I don't understand why this has started to happen now.  Messages without attachments seem OK.

    Hi,

As Eric has linked you to, I meant if there was such and option - can they be checked on a  Web Login mail page ?

What are your settings in this pane of the Preferences ?

    Screen Shot 2015-01-02 at 20.43.24.png

On this iCloud one they are "Kept on Server" and Never Deleted.

    Got it, thanks.

I have only the virginmedia account, and the settings are identical to in your picture.  Bizarrely, seems to only affect emails with attachments, and it's not that they are too big for virginmedia mail - i'm talking about a word document of a few kb size...

    HI,

I notice with my Google Account (Also IMAP) that it appears in the Sent "folder" under the Inbox but also has two folders listed in the Google Section of Folders.

I also have a "second" Junk folder here as well.

    Screen Shot 2015-01-05 at 19.41.22.png

I think I have acquired these due to Migrating this with my User Account across two computers and several version of the OS (And therefore the Mail App).

Looking in one of those I find it has emails that I sent from my G4

There are only 4 in the first of those and I cannot work out why they are separate. They also look like they relate to the Google Mail account being used on the G4 as well.

I wonder if your Account also has it's own Sent Folder like my Google one has ?

    Same problem here..

Mail with attachments is delivered, but doesn't appear in the sent folder, neither on the server..

I'm thinking of changing mail client..

I need local folders in my workflow, does it supports them?

I tried Postbox in the past, but I was not very impressed..

    hi folks,

same problem here.  use a Cox cable Email service provider.  have used it for over 10 years.  used to be offered only with POP protocol.  Cox recently rolled out IMAP option for its residential customers.

I tried the IMAP protocol and liked the integration of the email across the several devices.  the only problem I could see was this problem of where some sent email (sent mail with attachments) would not get automatically copied into my local sent mail folder when sending from my macbook.  ordinary mail with no attachments would routinely be copied there.  some email with attachments would not be copied there.

as other users have reported, the mail with attachments was indeed sent out and received by the recipients but the lack of a record of it in my local sent mail folder was disconcerting.

anybody find a reliable workaround to this glitch??

    ed

Did anyone find a way to recover sent messages that don't appear in the sent folder?

It happens to me about once a week and seems to be only messages with an attachment.  Last night I sent a long message with a pdf attachment. It's not in the sent folder or the draft folder.  Nothing in "archive" or "trash" or "junk" either.
