Q: Themes on IDVD7 have gone missing

I have created a family video using both IDVD for the menu and FCP for the actual footage. however I have tried to burn additional copies of the video and found that the menu themes, in their case the Forever Main theme is not available. die to this I have not been able to burn the video on to disc. (IDVD version 7.1.2)

Can anyone advice.

Thank you

Look in the HD/Library/Application Support/iDVD folder for a "Themes" folder.  Or it might be in the HD/Users/Home/Library/Application Support/iDVD folder.

Once you've found it open iDVD, go to the Advanced preference pane and point iDVD to the location of the "Themes" folder.  Reboot and try again.

Was iDVD preinstalled when you got your Mac?  If so and the above doesn't jump start the themes you'll have to reinstall just iDVD and it's themes with the disks that came with the Mac.  If you have to to that move iDVD to the Trash bin in the Dock but don't delete until the reinstall is completed and found successful.

Thank you for your reply. IDVD was pre installed and I don't have the disk to reload it. When I go to the location in your message I can see it there but appears not to have an application attached.

What do you mean by not have an application attached?  Are you referring to the icon of the theme files?

Hi Old Toad, yes that is what it seems.

Each time I try to burn a copy of the footage it renders for a while then I get an error messaged saying that it can't complete even though I have burned a copy on to disk in the past. It seems to be a problem with the menu created in IDVD

    I appreciate your time

Do you still have that disk that you burned previously?  If so you can use Disk Utility to make a disk image from it and then burn another disk with Disk Utility from the disk image.

Once you get the theme issue fixed for future projects follow this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD:

Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.

To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.

Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
