IMac Boot issues

Hi everybody,

I have an iMac (27-inch, medio 2011) with has trouble starting up. When i start up the computer in the morning it wil reboot it self 5 to 10 times. Sometimes at the login screen and sometime after. Then after a while the mac runs just fine. When i restart no problems, only in the morning.

I run a clean install OS, from a flash drive so i could format the disk and make clean install. Run the extended hardware tests witch gave no problems.

But the same thing happens every morning.

Anybody know what this could be?

Same behavior this morning?

You still have all the Toast kernel extensions in there. I would strongly recommend uninstalling Toast using manufacturers instructions. Also check to see if you had the current version.

Try unplugging all peripherals befor you start in the morning, use Apple mouse as well if you have it, see if that makes a difference.

Also, I noticed you did a RAM upgrade, where did you buy the RAM? It doesn't seem to be behaving like a RAM issue (usually causes random kernel panics).

I deleted everything you said, this morning 5 re-boots.

Although it is passing the hardware test, it seems that it must be a hardware fault. As Linc pointed out earlier, Apple is paying for video card replacement for certain Macs and yours looks to be covered, however, they are replacing when the display shows very noticeable problems. I would call Apple and see if this is also the card but a different symptom. Described here:

iMac (27-inch): AMD Radeon 6970M Video Card Replacement Program - Apple Support
