Renaming a Finder Favorite?

I'm not at a Mac to test this, but I assume it will work for the rename problem. Make an Alias to the folder, name it anything you want, then drag the alias to the Sidebar. You'll have to keep the alias around, so you might want to make a folder to store them all in.

I think there is a third-party hack to bring color back to the sidebar. Otherwise, I don't think the color part is possible.

If you are just looking for quick access to these certain files, you could do this in the dock and renaming an alias will work. Create a folder for the dock and drag it to the bottom or right portion of the dock. Make aliases of the folders in question, name them what you wish, and move them to the dock folder or to that folder in the location you are storing it.

In addition to my last reply, you can drag that folder you created to the sidebar favorites instead of the dock. The alias folders within that folder will retain the new alias name and won't affect the original folder names.

I tested it with the Finder and dock. It will work like that in either location you decide to use.

For me, I actually like the dock better for quick navigating of files through certain folders. You can scroll through subfolders more quickly and won't have to open a finder window.

One can right-click on a user created Finder Favorite, and choose to rename it from the pop-up menu. If the Favorite was created by OS X, then there is no rename option, and these should not be renamed anyway.

Doesn't work with an alias of a folder either. When you drag the alias with a different name to Favorites, the name of the original folder shows and changing the name changes the original.

In the very beginning of the Sidebar, it used to work that way. However, I think it confused a lot of people. For whatever reason, they changed it very quickly and it has never returned.
