exchange account stuck on automatic reply loading

My exchange account cannot send or receive because the "automatic reply" field is stuck on "loading"

iPhone 6, iOS 8.1.2

close out of the mail app, then double tap home button and completely close out of the app.

Then do a reset, no data loss. Hold down the home/sleep button together until you see the apple logo and then release, then wait for the phone to boot back up.

then check email again.

sorry, but when I go back to Mail, Contacts, Calendar in Settings after trying this fix, it still shows my exchange account as "loading" the automatic reply, and that stops all incoming and outgoing mail.
