Dropped iphone and now has lines running across it

I accidentally knocked a glass over my iphone 5 and I guess the impact cause one corner to shatter slightly. When I turned it on, the screen was very discoloured and had lines running through it; it almost looked like one of those tv malfunctions in the shows. It's slightly unresponsive now. I can still unlock my phone and open apps but the touch reaction is kind of wonky. Sometimes it won't react unless I try a few times, sometimes I'll tap one area and it will open up a different part. Is there any possible way to fix this and if so, what exactly is damaged? Or will I have to buy a new phone completely?
