Q: Bootcamp Help

Hello.

I'm not very familiar with the world of apple products but i have a power mac or mac pro(not sure which but specs included in the bottom) I've read countless articles and posts saying how to use Bootcamp and I've followed completely but i keep running into the same issue so here i am. So how it works is after i run Bootcamp and follow all on screen instructions(partitioning and such) my computer restarts leaving me with a running computer and a screen that stays black. Following this i tried restarting the computer while holding down the alt key, when the menu appeared i select the windows dvd but the screen freezes there while the computer fans get increasingly faster. I've tried different dvds and even burned a new windows dvd using an iso i got from the Microsoft website. Any help would be much appreciate.

Specs:

os: Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5

cpu: 2 x 2.66 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon

ram: 8 GB DDR2

bootcamp version: 4.0.4

To look into the problem a bit more I would like to know your product and its year. Go to the Apple Menu-> About This mac and in there it should say Mac Pro and in parenthesis the year for example with my MacBook Pro it Is MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2012)

I would like to know if it is possible for you to upgrade to Mavericks or more preferably Yosemite because of a new boot selection screen that is brought in with the new OSs.

Mac Pro 2006, MacPro1,1. The only reason i haven't attempted to upgrade is because I've heard that tools such as pro tools 10 didn't work on newer os updates.

A MacPro (tower model) has specific requirements where all drives that are not needed for Windows installation, should be temporarily removed, till the installation is completed.

You need to only have the OS X disk, the designated Windows disk (it can be the same as the OS X disk, or a separate physical disk). You will need a DVD with the Windows version you need to install, a fully functional Optical drive, and a USB2 8Gb flash drive for Bootcamp drivers. A USB keyboard/mouse is preferred over a BT mouse/keyboard.

Once you have this set up, you can run Bootcamp Assistant, partition you designated Windows disk, and install Windows.

I checked your Mac Model and the version of Bootcamp you have is the latest version available for your Mac Pro.

How optical drives and how many hard drives do you have installed?

Ive attempted both Windows 7 ultimate 64bit and 32bit both having the same issue.

If you have any hubs for storage, you should not use such devices. USB Keyboard/Mouse work much better than BT devices. USB flash drives shoudl be USB2 (not USB3) because Windows 7/8 installers do not have adequate support on the installation media.

I am using a USB keyboard and mouse. As for USB storage devices because i have an optical drive i cant install windows using them, i did however put the drivers given by bootcamp on a USB device.

You should have

Windows DVD Installer
Keyboard/Mouse/Monitor
USB (with BC drivers only).

Anything else will cause problems. The USB should be directly connected to the Mac (without any hubs. For example, you cannot use a Apple USB keyboard to plug in the USB drive, even though the keyboard does provide such hub functions).
