Installer will not allow me to install Adobe flash player because it will not accept my password. I have tried to reset it every way suggested but nothing has worked. It will also not let me install my Garmin program telling me that I do not have administrative privileges, yet my name is listed in my files as administrator. I have tried every password I have ever used and nothing works. I have even tried resetting it with my Apple ID to no avail.Can anyone help?

MacBook Air, OS X Yosemite (10.10.1), also occurred in Yosemite10.8.5

In the Users & Groups preference pane, is your account listed as Admin or Standard?

i am having the same problem, and i looked and it says i am a 'standard' and the other option is guest user- so there is no administrator and i need that info to unlock it to change that. what would i do?

I'm having the same issue with OS 10.9.5 on MacBook Air. I've reset my Apple password--twice. I'm listed as Admin in users and groups. I tried closing Safari and removing my login password on a colleague's suggestion (not sure why this was supposed to help--at any rate it didn't). Hope somebody has another suggestion.
