Q: My MacBook Pro periodically makes sounds of a jet engine

I purchased a MacBook Pro 2.5GHz with Retina display. Everything is perfect except it sometimes sounds like a jet taking off. It must be a cooling procedure or something, but I'd like to make sure that everything is normal about that. I run VMware Fusion with a Windows development environment running on. Could this be the reason? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks a lot.

Hey Zautashvili,

That could be the reason that you are having fan issues. I would take a look at Activity Monitor to see if there is anything using a high amount of CPU that could cause the fans to spin faster to cool down your MacBook Pro.

Runaway applications can shorten battery runtime, affect performance, and increase heat and fan activity
