Q: iTunes 12 hanging when connecting new iPhone 6

I have recently purchased a new iPhone 6 and am attempting to sync my content to the phone using iTunes 12 and windows 8.1

When I connect the phone it hangs iTunes and displays not responding.

If I connect my old iPhone 5 this works fine and I can sync content.

I've updated the phone to the latest iOS version and updated iTunes to the latest version

any help greatly appreciated
