Q: Does gift card on child's account require parental permission?

If I have an account for childre, and I put an iTunes card on it, will I still get to do parental approval for purchases?

Hi Mr. Ected,

When Ask to Buy is enabled on a Family Sharing account, it should promp for approval on all purchases, even free downloads, as noted in the following article:

Thanks for responding!

My kids received iTunes cards for Christmas and I'd like to put them on each of their own iTunes accounts so that when they want to purchase something and it is approved, the cost (if there is one) is removed from their account. It sounds like this is the case.
