Jan 2, 2015 12:47 PM in response to Jetrinaby Ziatron,★HelpfulI would recommend Taiyo Yuden DVD+Rs. They are made in Japan, not China. (I get excellent results using iMovie 06 with iDVD 09/11.)

I have found DVD+R to be more reliable than DVD-R. The only disadvantage to DVD+R is that DVD players manufacture before 2003 may not play them.
DVD+R disks are better than DVD-R disks because of the increased error correction technique used in the newer +R standard.

Jan 3, 2015 8:53 AM in response to Jetrinaby Old Toad,Memorex is one of the poorer quality brands for DVD disks. The earlier disk you found an used probably was from a batch that had a better dye layer.
Follow this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD and note the brands recommended:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it. If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality. Always use top quality media: Verbatim-R, Maxell-R or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

Just want to add one more thing. DUST !
One reason to bad DVDs are that dust builds up on the laser burner laser.
I use a Cleaning DVD from time to time to keep this problem away. NO liquid - the one with small brushes.
Another thing to keep in mind is OVERHEATING this laser - easy to do - to avoid I only burn three DVDs in a row - then I let it cool down for more than twenty minutes (at least) till I burn next set of DVDs.
