My Finder seems to be Broken - OSX 10.10.1

Hi All,

My Finder seems to have been behaving strangely ever since the upgrade to Yosemite a few months ago. The facts so far:

  • I can't empty my trash.
  • I no longer see progress bars for copying items from one place to another
  • When I open Finder Preferences, the window opens but is 100% blank of content

I've already tried removing all Finder preferences via Terminal. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks and Happy New Year.

Note: I tried to post to the Yosemite community but I received, "You are not allowed to create or update this content" so I've posted to Mavericks.

No, it does not happen in safe mode or with another user.

If safe mode and another user works ok, then you might check first your login items and if any, remove them all:

OS X Yosemite: Open items automatically when you log in

You might also check what is sitting in your user library in folder called LaunchAgents - boot to safe mode, open Finder, press SHIFT+CMD+G and in Go To Folder window paste ~/Library/LaunchAgents

If anything there, move to trash.

It won't harm, if you will also refresh Finder plist file - - boot to safe mode, open Finder, press SHIFT+CMD+G and in Go To Folder window paste ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist and move to trash selected file.
