Can someone help me with auto indent for ipad?

I'm new to Pages for iPad and I can't figure out how to make it auto indent a new paragraph when I hit return. I googled it and was told to enable ruler (which I did) and find the tab stop and first line indent icons, a triangle and a rectangle on the ruler itself. It said to slide the rectangle over to where I want my indent to stop, but I can't adjust the triangle and the rectangle independently from one another. I can slide them both over so my left margin moves inward, but when I try to move just the rectangle it thinks I'm hitting either 'documents' or 'undo'. If I just hit 'tab' at the beginning of a new paragraph it doesn't auto capitalize my first sentence which is bizarre to say the least. I'm getting very frustrated and apple support couldn't help me... Am I doing something wrong or am I just doomed to having to remember to capitalize the first word of a new paragraph every time?

Auto indent is a function of the style applied. Adjusting the indent and paragraph margins for a single paragraph will not take care of this. You need to use a template that already has this set for the Body style (several of the available templates are already set up for this).

As for auto capitalization, this is a system wide function: Settings app > General > Keyboard > Auto-Capitalization
