Q: Bootcamp Second option greyed out

Ok so after following this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VBAQ3CNgfxc) tutorial on how to enable the ‘’create a windows 7 or later version install disk’’ option on bootcamp. I have finally gotten that option however there are some issues. The second option which is ‘’Download the latest windows support software from apple’’ is greyed out but the box is ticked. Any idea on how should i fix this or is it ok for me to continue?

You should not modify BC info.plist if BCA does not provide it by default, because it causes new problems.

If you uncheck the first checkbox, then you can manipulate the second checkbox, but this will cause problems.

    What year/model is your Mac?

Also I saw on some of your replys towards other posts that you had a screenshot which was the same as mine. Like for instance your second option was also greyed out and ticked

Here is your screenshot in this post : Need 64-bit Windows installation USB drive or DVD.

Look at About This Mac which should tell you the year/model, similar to this.

    Yosemite-AboutThisMac.png

If you get all three options, the second option is controlled by BCA to download drivers which are required for pre- and post-Windows installation. You can also manually download drivers separately, by unchecking the first and third checkboxes.

Thanks. This can be used to manually download BC drivers if needed by using Boot Camp: System requirements for Microsoft Windows operating systems - Apple Support.

But should i click continue for the bootcamp thing?

    Yes, please do.

Just before I press the continue button, I found this article http://www.codez4mac.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=212&t=61921.

Which says I need to change some codes around. I did a different method which was I open the modified info.plist and where it says PreUSBBootSupportedModels, All i did was remove the Pre and it looked like this USBBootSupportedModels and then i clicked saved. This method was in this video tutorial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VBAQ3CNgfxc

So now my question to you or anyone is that Is it alright if I don't change the code?

You should follow the procedure from the article.

    Hello Again

After reading the peoples comments of the procedure in that article, i saw that alot of people have been havkng a issue which is after they done this procedure they get this message ""

"No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key"

i was wondering if you could tell me what to do now? Should i still do the procedure of the article i link before or should I just continue with my bootcamp.

p.s above just to remind you i did this method open the modified info.plist and where it says PreUSBBootSupportedModels, All i did was remove the Pre and it looked like this USBBootSupportedModels and then i clicked saved. however you said this method is ok and that i shouls continie bu following up with the procedure of the article ?

See my comment on your threadCreate a Windows USB installer size regards.

You should NOT modify the BC info.plist, but you seem to insist on doing it to get a USB installer, which has repercussions which you are now faced with or will face.

If your built-in Optical drive does not work, you need to address the root cause rather than using such methods which cause further problems.

So out of 1 to 10 whereas 1 being the lowest and 10 being the highest how likely is it that I or anyone would encounter this ;''

''No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key"

Yes you are right that I insist on doing it to get a USB installer. But what other choices were there that could offer the USB installer ? There wasn't any alternatives I could find that i could use.

For this sentence you said earlier ''If your built-in Optical drive does not work, you need to address the root cause'' What did you meant by that?

You can get your broken Optical drive fixed and use the USB and DVD combination to install Windows using a supported method.

For the Optical drive bit you were saying how it can be damaged and fixed. So by doing this bootcamp thing, will it damage the optical drive?

And have you investigated whether it is safe to do the procedure in the article? Or should I consider not to do it and just continue with the  bootcamp with the info.plist changed?
