Thanks for the question. Based on what you stated, it seems like you are not able to scan because of two different problems.I would recommend that you read these articles, they may be helpful in troubleshooting your issue.

If I try to scan from Image Capture, the device is not even recognized.
If I try to scan from through System Preferences/Printers & Scanners/ Open Scanner, it loads the overview-I can make adjustments but as soon as I hit "Scan" to destination, it quits (screen goes blank and says "Scanner Not Available".
It is an All-In-One Unit and the printer works with no problems.
