Dashboard info lost

Dashboard wasn't coming up, the screen would just dim. I looked at previous discussions, dragged com.apple.dashboard.plist and com.apple.dashboard.client.plist files to the desktop then restarted. Dashboard worked after restart but I lost all the info I had filed here. Is there anyway I can recover the info? Thanks

The point of dragging the .plist files to the desktop is to restore Dashboard (or any app) to the programmed defaults. If you still have the files, you could restore them to the /Library/Preferences folder to restore your settings.

If something in them was causing Dashboard not to come up, then that probably won't work and you'll just need to replace everything manually- There are also widget-com.company.widgetname.plist files in your preferences folder that have the settings and info for individual widgets.

You can open them with the Property List Editor if you install the Developer Tools package from the OS X DVD. If you don't want to do that, you can use TextEdit, but its a little harder to read.
