Q: Why has my cursor changed?

Hi everyone, this is my first question in a forum so I'm not sure of the protocol. But here's my problem:

My cursor has gone wild.

For years, my Mac cursor was always the same black arrow. Sort of pointing diagonally upwards. But now it's become stripy, and sometimes (intermittently) becomes a left arrow (pointing hard left) when it's hovering over a link. Or sometimes when it's pointing at a point in some text. But not always.

And it flashes on and off real fast, it jitters and wobbles and sometimes it can grab things to drag them, sometimes it can't. It's driving me nuts.

There seems to be no logic to the changing of shapes, from upward pointing arrow to left pointing arrow. Sometimes it's totally useless.

Why did it change? Why does it keep changing shape and how do I get it to stop.  I don't like it at all.

Any help to get it to behave normally and go back to the regular cursor shape would be so greatly appreciated.

Cheers, Kerri.
