How do I put emojis in an email?

Anyone know?

Yo! I'm on Mavericks, After going to edit-special characters -emojis- kind of emoji- ( say, people) Then just select one- it appears large to the right but below it there is a small one. Just click and drag on the small one and drop onto your email👿

Apple added emoji only with Lion (10.7) and above. You're not going to be able to use emoji in Tiger.
I have OS X v. 10.9. Is that Lion? How do you tell which one you have?
Thanks

You should have them then.
10.7= Lion
10.8= Mountain Lion
10.9= Mavericks
10.10= Yosemite
