Q: AppleTV repeatedly drops network connection
My AppleTV has been having a problem staying connected to my network. Initially, I started off with it connecting through WiFi so that I could use Airplay to stream videos and/or music to my TV and stereo.
My Computer: 2013 Macbook Air running Yosemite OS10.10
AppleTV: Currently up to date, purchased in October of 2014
When streaming from my Macbook Air, whether it be mirroring the display, extending the desktop, or streaming from iTunes, I was periodically finding that the video would lag, appear choppy, or even completely drop. This would be evident on the MacBook Air, as the Airplay icon would turn orange, freeze with the pinwheel, or just tell me that I could not connect to the AppleTV device when I attempted to click back onto it.
The AppleTV, in these situations, would simply drop it's connection to the network, not allowing me to access any of the services (iTunes Radio, iTunes Library Sharing, etc) as it did not think it was connected to a network.
In an attempt to solve this, I plugged the AppleTV directly into the router via ethernet. Unfortunately, the exact same problems continued to happen, although I fantasized that it was less frequent.
I have gone through my router (Netgear) permissions and determined that I do not have any equipment accessing or dragging down my network speed that is unaccounted for
I have attempted to stream audio from my iPhone 4S to the AppleTV, and have not had the same problems, but it is hard to tell when the problems will start up, and it tends to happen most often whenever I am streaming video from Macbook Air. I am uncertain as to whether it is the AppleTV or MacBook Air, and tried to eliminate the variables in the testing of the system. I "THINK" it is the AppleTV, but without a sure way to test the setup, I can't be sure.
Help?
MacBook Air, OS X Yosemite (10.10)
