Q: Apple TV airplay not connecting via ipad, iphone 5s or iphone 6 or macbook pro.

Apple TV airplay not connecting via ipad, iphone 5s or iphone 6 or macbook pro. I have done all the troubleshooting one can do. Both wired and wireless connections tested and no difference. The times that it did work, would not show slo-mo videos... It constantly shows up to connect but immediately disappears once attempted to connect to it on any of the devices... in some cases it freezes the device a little like it is attempting to connect then kicks me off of the apple tv.

Seems more finicky than ever with new upgrades/updates... not sure what is going on...

I've checked all the connections in my house. Gotten a new modem to upgrade the internet speed capabilities, and reconnected the router. I've tested the router download and upload speeds, and all is good. Not sure why the connection is not going through... I have read that this is a common problem... So, does anyone have an answer? or a suggestion on how to fix it?

Thank you!

Apple TV (3rd generation), iOS 8.1.2

    Hi mexico4244,

Welcome to the Support Communities! If your Apple TV is not connecting to any of your devices, I would start the troubleshooting by  restoring the Apple TV to factory settings.  This will update the software to the latest version as well.  Then I would check the Home Sharing settings, and try to connect again.  I've included the pertinent troubleshooting articles below.

Apple TV (2nd and 3rd generation): Restoring your Apple TV - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202118

Restoring your Apple TV to factory settings

    1. On Apple TV, choose Settings > General > Reset, and then click Restore.
    2. Your Apple TV will restore to factory settings and will download and install the latest Apple TV software. This process may take some time. Do not disconnect your Apple TV's power cable during the restore process.

If you cannot use this process, and you have a micro-USB cable, try the steps in the next section.

If your Apple TV still does not respond or if you were unable to follow the above steps

This restore process requires a micro-USB cable (sold separately), a computer with iTunes, and a high-speed Internet connection. This will install the latest software and revert the device to factory settings.

    1. Disconnect the power and HDMI cables from the Apple TV.
    2. Verify that you are using the latest version of iTunes:
      • Mac: Choose iTunes > Check for Updates
      • Windows: Choose Help > Check for Updates
    3. Open iTunes on your computer.
    4. Connect your Apple TV to a computer (determine which Apple TV model you have):
      • Apple TV (2nd generation): Connect one end of the micro-USB cable to the back of your Apple TV, and the other end to one of your computer's USB ports.
      • Apple TV (3rd generation): Connect one end of the micro-USB cable to the back of your Apple TV, and the other end to one of your computer's USB ports. Connect the power cable from your Apple TV to a power outlet.
    5. Click Restore Apple TV from the Apple TV summary page. This step may take some time, depending on the speed of your Internet connection.

Note: If you don't see the above screen in iTunes, it may be necessary to choose Apple TV from the upper right of the iTunes window.
    6. During the restore, do not unplug any cables.
    7. After the restore process completes and the Apple TV icon disappears from iTunes, disconnect the micro-USB and power cables (if applicable), then reconnect to your TV with HDMI and power cables.

Important: If the Apple TV remains plugged in to your computer with a micro-USB cable after restoring, it may loop back into restore mode. If this occurs, unplug all cables from Apple TV then connect with power and HDMI to your TV normally.
