Q: Photos on iMac in cloud not syncing

Apologies in advance, I know this query has come up but after reading many of the threads, apple tutorials etc I still cant get photos from Iphotos cloud folder to show up on ipad air. Photo stream etc are all enabled on both machines operating Yosemite, IOS8 respectively. Tried signing out, disabling & resetting but that got me just 4 photos from around 200 to show on ipad. All were taken with a camera imported into Mac via Iphoto. None synced. I tried manually placing them into the cloud folder in the Iphoto sidebar & ended up with the 4 I have now (2 from years ago & 2 very recent). Certainly not 'seamless' for me. Any advice much appreciated

It's possible you have a corrupt photo if the updating of photos seems to have stuck. Try removing all the photos from your iCloud photo library on all devices and try again with a smaller number of photos to check it's all working.

    Certainly not 'seamless' for me.

Please try to remember that iCloud photo library is a beta.

Okay, thank you. I cleared the cloud folder on Iphoto Mac & deleted everything from photos Ipad (including the recently deleted folder) Put 6 random photos into the empty IPhoto cloud folder, clicking the share to my photo stream pop up. Nothing on ipad 2+ hours later. Will the proposed new version of photos be better?because for me, at least IPhoto beta & photos are far from easy or seamless

I think I see your problem, you are trying to load the photos through iPhoto and are you using iCloud photo library on your mobile devices.

iPhoto uses photo stream not iCloud photo library, try adding your photos at iCloud.com

    Thanks again, that works.

But I thought the cloud folder in different apps just placed items 'into the cloud' & made them accessible from any device. So photo stream for iPhoto Mac doesn't sync with photo stream in iOS photos? Until photos for Mac appears, any pics that I need on iPad must be uploaded via iCloud.com?

Actually it does, but probably does help explain things. Photo stream is hidden on your mobile device when you enable iCloud photo library, your mobile device still has access to photo stream though as you can tell when you take a photo on the device and it winds up on your Mac. So it may be best to think that it just doesn't sync with iCloud photo library.

If they are from your Mac, yes.
