Q: iDVD only opens for a split second w/ Mavericks

Hello folks,   I need your help.

I have a mid-2014 13" Retina MacBook Pro running Mavericks 10.9.5.  I wanted iDVD, so I copied the App. and Themes folder from another iMac I have (following online instructions).  I've installed them but when I start iDVD and select new iDVD, it only opens for a split second then closes!  I've attempted numerous re-installs to no avail.  Curiously, as a test, I did this on my daughter's MacBook Air (same vintage) that also runs 10.9.5 and it worked fine.  Why is iDVD closing on me?  I don't want to purchase an iLife '09 or '11 disc to see the same thing happen.  Any help will be greatly appreciated!  Thanks!

Are you running the latest version of iDVD, 7.1.2?

    Try this basic troubleshooting fix:

1 - delete the IDVD preference file, com.apple.iDVD.plist, that resides in your

    User/Home/Library/Preferences folder.

2 - delete the contents of IDVD'S cache folder: User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iDVD.

3 - launch IDVD and try again.

NOTE: If you're running Mavericks or Yosemite go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:

Where did you place the Themes folder?  I should be in the HD/Library/Application Support/iDVD folder

Also I'd boot into the Recovery volume (boot with the Command + R keys held down), select Disk Utility and repair both the disk permissions and the disk.
