Help me get rid of a Comcast Xfinity pop up window that just will not go away!
iMac (27-inch, Late 2012), OS X Yosemite (10.10.1)
Try either one of these (one is manual, the other you download an app):
Remove unwanted adware that displays pop-up ads and graphics on your Mac - Apple Support
I have the same annoying comcast popup. I tried all the steps in the Apple Support site mentioned by Babowa. No effect.
I downloaded AdBlocker, but that doesn't work for the Comcast popup.
My Safari preferences are set to Block Popups
I called Comcast and asked for their help in getting rid of this popup.
The first tech support person hung up on me when I didn't want to answer some of their marketing questions before he helped me. I told him to just say "Customer declined" and then he hung up.
I called back, and got a 2nd Tech Support person, who told me to set my browser to "block popups." I had already done that, so that didn't help. Then she said it was not coming from Comcast, but from my internet provider. I said, "You mean, you're telling me that your competition is placing an ad on my browser to get me to switch from them to Comcast?" She repeated that it was coming from my internet provider. I asked to be connected to a different tech person.
The 3rd person told me he "wasn't sure this was coming from Comcast." To be sure, he said he would have to contact all the Comcast customers in the country and ask them to disconnect their Comcast wifi spots.
So, what do I do now?
It looks like your iMac is trying to join that WiFi hotspot.
