Q: Have to restart Apple TV EVERY time I want to stream from my iTunes!

Every night when I want to watch a video stored in my iTunes movies on my PC I have to reboot my Apple TV prior to doing it.

My Apple TV is one or generations old but it has the latest software and my iTunes is the latest version.  The PC that iTunes is on is wired and the apple TV is on a wired network.  Other networking services on the Apple TV look to be working fine just the streaming from my PC aspect is not.  Also streaming from other MACs or PCs is not working. But after a restart of the Apple TV all is fine.

But almost 90%+ the next day if I watch a movie again I need to restart the apple TV again.

I have given the device a static and dynamic IPs and none of it helps.

Any suggestions?

    Hey there Joe_Dawson,

If I understand correctly you cannot access any content on any of your computers until you restart the Apple TV once a day. I would recommend steps 4, 6 and 7 from the following article named:

    Troubleshooting Home Sharing

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

    All the best,

    Sterling

I've been having similar problems for the last few months with 2 of the first 1080p AppleTV's. A lot of it started with updates where they changed the look and menus to look similar to iOS8. I also have 2 older 720p AppleTV's thats don't seem to have the same problem. In my opinion it's some sort of networking glitch. Sometimes restarting iTunes works...sometimes not.. sometimes I have to restart AppleTV ..sometimes not. The iPhone remote application has never really been updated and is pretty much has the same issues not seeing the newer AppleTV's. It's also lost some of it's functionality ..you can basically swipe your menus and nothing more.

I have the exact same problem. One 720 Apple TV works fine but my 1080p Apple TV needs to be restarted every few hours otherwise it can't connect to the iTunes servers.... Very annoying, no reply from Apple on this forum !

I also have this same issue. I've tried hardwiring the AppleTV, but that doesn't change the problem. Once I restart Apple TV, it works fine until after Apple TV has gone to sleep or shutdown. Macbook Pro Retina/ iPhone/ then will either not be able to even see the Apple TV or Apple TV will be grayed out. I'm tired of rebooting both router and apple tv every time I want to stream. I am on the ATT Uverse modem/ Router (Motorola NVG589).  Also occasionally Apple TV turns on fine, but has not sound, but after a reboot it works fine.  I've gone through all the troubleshooting steps described above and on other official Apple TV/ Home Sharing help sites, but to no avail. Any other ideas out there?
