Macbook Pro battery running low very fast

Hiya,

I got my very first macbook about a week ago, a mid 2012 model, however, I already have problems with its battery life, which is about 2 hours when all I do is use google chrome. I tried googling for solutions, but every possible answer suggests something different, so if someone could offer me a personalised answer I would be really grateful. Here is the information on my mac that might be of help via EtreCheck (I know pretty much nothing abut macbooks and about computers in general, so an easily understandable explanation would be needed) :

Two big things that show in your report:

1) Your computer is demanding more RAM in its current config

2) You have 360 Antivirus installed. It will do nothing but slow your computer and potentially cause damage from over heating.

Getting rid of the useless anti-virus cr@p may eliminate the need to add RAM. So totally eliminate 360 and the test the computer, doing another Etrecheck if needed. I suspect the RAM issue will be better without 360.

I have the same MBP model and, even before I upgraded RAM from 4 to 8GB (I took advantage of some momentarily low RAM prices), it showed no slowness. I don't run AV software or any of the other dreck that unscrupulous developers foist on people switching from PC to Mac.

Thanks a lot Allan.

I did delete 360 AV, but the battery seems to drain very fast still. Heres the info i got from Etrecheck:

Power or other problems related to unexpected system sleep, shutdown, lights or fans call for anSMC reset. Read all the steps.

Before Resetting the SMC

Try each of the following steps in this order before you reset the SMC. Test the issue after completing each troubleshooting step to determine if the issue still occurs.

  1. Press Command + Option + Escape to force quit any application that is not responding.
  2. Put your Mac to sleep by choosing the Apple () menu from the upper-left menu bar and then choosing Sleep. Wake the computer after it has gone to sleep.
  3. Restart your Mac by choosing the Apple () menu from the upper-left menu bar and then choosing Restart.
  4. Shut down your Mac by choosing the Apple () menu from the upper-left menu bar and then choosing Shut Down.

Resetting the SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own

  1. Shut down the computer.
  2. Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if it's not already connected.
  3. On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time. The power adapter indicator light may cycle off / on once.
  4. Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
  5. Press the power button to turn on the computer.

, I already have problems with its battery life, which is about 2 hours when all I do is use google chrome.

That may be all it takes. Google has yet to demonstrate the ability to write efficient OS X code.

Uninstall Google Chrome and evaluate the results. Complaints about battery life are common. So is Google. I have yet to observe anything but better performance and increased battery life with Yosemite, but I don't use anything from Google.
