Q: iPhone 6 won't auto connect to Bluetooth in my Subaru Forrester

Just got an iPhone 6 and was having the same problem connecting to my Subaru Crosstrek. Tried pairing it using steering wheel controls as suggested, and this seems to have solved the problem! Weird (I never would have figured that out myself!), but ok. Thanks for the suggestion!

I got my iPhone 6 yesterday and noticed I was having the same issue with my Subaru's handsfree system even though my 5 never had a single problem.  I was disappointed because it's one of my favorite things about the car so I tried everything--reset the phone, deleted and reset the bluetooth connection.  Nothing worked.  Then I tried this and boom!  It's done.  I was ready to return the phone and was very disappointed because other than that, I've had no trouble with it.  I'm glad you found the fix and wanted to say thanks for posting!

Lauram77's suggestion worked perfectly! Subaru's have two bluetooth menus, one for audio and one for media. You have to delete both the media profile AND the telephony profile and re-pair.

THANKYOU! I have been going mad for months trying to work out why my my 6 won't automatically pair like my 5 used to with my Impreza (2013). I had literally tried everything mentioned by others and still it wouldn't work until I tried this. Thankyou so much!

After many months of trying I finally got my iPhone 6 to pair with my 2011 Subaru Forester. All I needed to do was to upgrade to IOS 8.4! Use the toggle switched on the steering wheel (manually hit the phone icon twice - see manual). Also make sure Bluetooth is ON in settings. When the Radio searches for the iPhone make sure you are on the Bluetooth page on your iPhone 6. Enter 1234 and you're paired!

Had this same problem with iPhone 5s and Subaru STI 2012.

Fixed by pairing with hands free steering controls and voice guided menu.

Prior to proceed with pairing, iPhone needs to be deleted from radio menu and car radio deleted from iPhone.

I've searched everywhere for tips and tricks on how to fix the issue that a good chunk of us seem to being having in regards to the iPhone 6 not pairing with vehicles. I was frustrated for months trying to figure this out. Did every update possible, thought about going to Apple themselves (but then read that they are no help). I even brought my car to the dealership thinking it was something faulty with my car. Nope. Btw, I drive a 2010 Mazda 3. This is my 3rd Mazda that I have owned and never did I have issues beforehand. I also know people with the exact same car who didn't have issues and friends with different cars who were having issues. Anyways long story short today I finally got it fixed!!!!

I spoke with my cousin who is very techno savvy. I explained to him that whenever it came to the pairing option through the set up in my car, I would get booted. The cars bluetooth would drop me and go right back to the radio. I also explained that when I clicked on my Mazda under bluetooth in my phone, that it could not find my car.

So, I was informed to delete everything under "bluetooth". If there are multiple vehicles, delete them all. Sadly, you'll have to reconnect them (although it seems as though if you have an issue with one car, you'll have it with another). Once done this, I went into the setup menu and went through the process of deleting ALL devices that were paired to my car. I did this and then tried to set it up for pairing. Again my bluetooth dropped me. As you can imagine I was frustrated thinking it wasn't going to work as I had just been dropped for the millionth time.

I tried to pair it right away and was getting no where.

I decided to just turn my phone off and then turn my car off. I waited for my phone to completely reboot then started my car. I went into the setup menu and went through the whole process of setting it up. It paired up perfectly as if there were no issues to begin with. I listened to music and phoned a few people just to make sure there were no issues. After months I finally have my bluetooth back!! yay!

Hopefully this helps some people. I assume it won't help everyone but, I wanted to let you all know what worked for me.

Omg, you just save the life of an iPhone 6s Plus.  I've been dealing with the Bluetooth not reconnecting issue for 3 weeks and tried just about everything.  Tonight I reformatted and refreshed my iPhone and was at my wits-end.  Your hands-free solution worked perfectly for my Subaru Forester 2012.  Thank you.  THANK YOU!!

I have a similar issue with my 2015 Subaru Forester and my new iPhone 6S. I have the phone paired with the car, and I did so through the hands-free settings on the steering wheel. It will connect automatically as soon as I start the car. BUT...If I use my remote start and if I don't get to the car for 5 minutes or so the phone will not auto connect. My 5S NEVER had any issues with this at all. This is an iPhone issue and not an issue with my Subaru. The only thing that has changed between the time it worked perfectly and now is the new iPhone/iOS 9.1.

Many THANKS, I had just moved from my Nokia Lumia 920 after 3 years of faithful service to a iPhone 6s and I had this same problem in my Forester and I thought WHAT!!!, so after reading your answer I remembered that I had the some problem with my 920 3 years ago but I never really worked out why it started to work, but know I do.

7:25 am on a cold, December, Middwest morning but I could hardly wait to go OUT to my car and see if this solution would solve my 6 month long problem since getting my iPhone 6....

I AM HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY!!!!! Used the steering wheel buttons and after a little trial and error....IT WORKED!!! Turned the car on and off several times and it reconnected on its own!!!!! Now, someone needs to let Subaru know to update its procedures. I had already stopped at AT&T and Subaru and both blamed the other, neither had a solution!

Let me add my thanks to this thread as well. We bought a 2012 Subaru Impreza and have been struggling for a month now since upgrading my wife's phone to a 6s. I just did this and it seems to work great. Not only that, doing it this way allows you to pair more than one phone. Making the "Select phone" option useful.

im having a legacy subaru 2011 estate it has the 6x cd changer in there in matter of hifi system. is every 2011 system handsfree ready? couldnt make it today but will try again when i picl the car up in a couple of days. just tried quickly today... but couldnt make it just found that topic here now. i got an iphone6 aswell.
