Bluetooth audio suddenly choppy

I've been playing my iTunes over a bluetooth speaker for well over a year with absolutely no issues. Now (within last 2-3 weeks) the audio is so choppy it's unusable. I have all Mavericks updates applied, and refuse to install Yosemite until other issues are resolved.

I checked the signal strength, and it's strong: -72dBm

I have tried this, with no luck:

I haven't found any other apparent fixes online, and have tried the following:

- Confirmed NO other Bluetooth devices paired to speakers

- Removed ALL paired Bluetooth devices

- Turned off Bluetooth speakers

- Disabled Bluetooth

- Disabled wi-fi (saw this in another post)

- Shut down Macbook Pro for 10 mins

- Remove ALL USB accessories

Then turned on Macbook & speakers... enabled bluetooth... paired.

Same results... horrible sound.

Question: Was there an OSX update in the last month or so that may have impacted Bluetooth??

Hardware:
Macbook Pro (2012-ish) 2.6 GHz Core i7

OS X: 10.9.5

Speakers: Samsung DA-E750

Sending BT diagnostic report to Apple support, but highly doubt I'll get an answer.

Thoughts?
