Q: iPhone 6 won't connect to Windows 7 laptop

Devices:

  • Apple iPhone 6, bought about three weeks ago
    • Storage capacity: 12.1 GB
    • Operating system: 8.1.2
  • Windows 7 Lenovo laptop
  • iPhone 6 charger cord, which came with the phone

Problem:

iPhone won't connect properly with my computer:

  • The laptop makes the sound as if it knows something is connected.
  • The phone won't charge.
  • There is no popup on the computer prompting me to download pictures or sync or anything.

I have tried a different charger cord, that of my sister who bought her phone at the same time.

My phone will charge with both charger cords when plugged into a wall.

I have tried a different USB port.

I have tried doing this with my laptop plugged and charging and unplugged.

I have tried restarting my laptop and my phone.

I have tried a different phone with the two different cords.

Since I had formerly had an Android (which doesn't sync), my iTunes program hadn't been synced or updated in a long time. SO I...

  • tried to update iTunes, but it wouldn't work.
  • uninstalled the program.
  • tried to reinstall it.
  • successfully reinstalled it after three attempts.

But - surprise! It still isn't working.

The weirdest part:

I tried this a week after I got it (about two weeks ago), and my phone would charge when connected to my computer (with the same cord). But, though my laptop would make the noise, it wouldn't recognize the phone as connected, and there would be no pop-up prompting me to download pictures. iTunes didn't see that it was connected either. So I gave up and resigned to try a few weeks later - and here I am. Now the phone won't even charge.

Any suggestions?

iPhone 6, iOS 8.1.2, null
