Q: how to play a video on login

So as the tag line suggests I would like a video pop up and play when my wife logs into her name (i know her login and she also knows mine).

Its a soppy video of us as a new family and just want to surprise her as pick me up.

    You'd have to use a video playback software that supports automatic playback of files upon opening.     Some do, and you'd have to assign the video file the ability to launch from that program using control-click and open with.

    The pre-2006 iMacs this forum covers are rather limited what they can do with modern videos. Can you please tell us what iMac variant you have and what version of the Mac OS it is running?

    In the account for your wife, preferences > accounts, you would add an app to the list of apps that run at login.  You may be able to add a file to this list, don't know.  You could write a simple script with open name-of-video file.  Possibly as simple as:

    #! /bin/bash

    # open is equivalent to double clicking on the file.

    open name-of-video
