Q: iMac will not charge/sync iPad Air - power icon oscillates between charging/not charging

The reason you are not getting a consistent charge on you iPad when it is connected to your iMac may be due to not being plugged into a high-powered USB port. As far as making sure that it stays connected to your iMac so you can sync with iTunes, try a different port as well as seeing if you can enable Wi-Fi syncing if it stays connected long enough. Take a look at the articles below for more information and troubleshooting options.

Jan 7, 2015 4:31 PMby rspiv,I though all the USB ports on the Apple iMac Retina 27" were USB 3.0 and capable of high power? Is that not true?
I will check trying to use different ports and see if that helps.
(And yes, I am using an official Apple MFI certified lightning cable, I never take the chance on the cheap non-MFI ones.)

I would next recommend these steps specifically from the following article to help further troubleshoot what is happening here:
iTunes: Resolve USB-related alerts
- Remove any third-party battery packs or cases from the device and ensure that the USB cable is connected directly to the port on the device.
- Close any virtualization apps (such as Parallels or VMWare).
These apps may interfere with your computer's ability to communicate over USB if they aren't properly configured, or up to date. If this resolves the issue, contact the developer of the app to see if an update is available. - Update to the latest version of iTunes if you haven't already.
- Disconnect other USB devices from your computer, except for your keyboard and mouse. Then, reconnect your iOS device. If the issue is resolved, reconnect the other USB devices one at a time. Make sure your iOS device is still recognized by the computer after adding back each device.
If none of that works, restore your backup back to your iPad. If other iOS devices work fine, then I would next seek service for your iPad:
