Was the mouse connected to the other device recently? If so, it needs to be deleted from that device. BT devices may only be paired with one thing at a time.

Reset the PRAM.

Thanks Barry- I reset both SMC and PRAM. Still have the problem. This iMac has been to the shop 2 times for hardware failures. First the hard drives failed 3T setup, then the power supply failed. I am trying to get on with my developer work. Thanks goodness my MacPro is working fine and this wireless mouse works on it. I therefore believe that somehow since last night something corrupted the mouse driver.
