Q: Poor Apple TV Playback During Streaming

Equipment - MacBook Pro, Apple TV Gen 2, Airport Extreme.  Purchased/Downloaded a movie from iTunes to my MBP then tried to watch it from the Apple TV with connection to Computer - Not Streaming from iTunes.  We weren't able to watch it because it constantly stopped to buffer.  I have good signal strength on Wireless with nothing else on network at the time.  I contacted Apple Support but the technician just said I need a good Broadband Internet connection even while streaming over Airplay.  I live in the sticks and have poor Internet connection which is why I chose to buy the movie and stream it locally.  The Apple Support Technician could provide no answer why just the comment that I still need Broadband Internet connection.  This is counter-intuitive and I hope I can get a better explanation or solution.

MacBrook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7)

Make sure you are accessing the Computers icon, if you are under the Movies icon then it will be accessing the cloud.

If you are under computers, then the issue is with the local network.

Checking signal on device isn't going to be accurate, you need to get a network report by going to istumbler, netstumbler or similar. That will give a proper indication of signal speed, noise, and also show nearby networks.

Using ethernet will also help rule out wifi issues.
