Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you’re unable to play purchased music in iTunes on your PC or iOS device, because there’s an issue with not knowing the password for the Apple ID that was used to purchase the content. Take a look at the article linked below, it’ll walk you through the process of resetting an Apple ID password.

Jan 7, 2015 10:03 AM in response to Jason Lby potoole808,Thanks Jason,
Yeah I figured that much out. In fact that's the reason I added a new Apple ID. I was never able to change or update my old password.
I tried using the e-mail authentication method and would always get the "email sent" message, but never received any email.
I then tried the "answer security question" method and the first question is "enter your date of birth". When I enter my correct Birthday, I get an error message that says that it does not match my record.
Sooo, kind of stuck. I would like to be able to have just one apple ID and have all of my devices and purchases linked to that ID.
Do you know any other way to reset an old password if the above mentioned methods have failed?
Thanks again for the help!
Patrick
