midi drum pad

Looking to buy a midi drum pad for my logic set up. Curious as to suggestions on which one to buy and feed back from all you out there who have used various models. The two I have checked out on line are the . .

M-Audio Trigger Finger 16-Pad MIDI Drum Control Surface and the Yamaha DD55 7 touch set.

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

I've just bought the Korg PadKontrol.

After years of pounding away on the keyboards this machine is really something else. The pads are very expressive and I have also been experimenting with using it on synths etc and its enabled me to find a new source of sounds.

The number of controllers is small but that was not a problem for me as I have them on other hardware.

I bought the controller for the pads but I was disappointed by the response of both Korg and Toontracks when I found that;

A) I could not load the free demo of dfh(Its a demo and we do not support it) and

B) the Creative pack so heavily advertised was missing from my box. It appears this is something that Korg are aware of (looks like the packers forgot to put it in in some of the boxes) but it means that you have to go back to the retailer to get him to contact Korg and obtain it for you. I have not bothered but this is something you need to check if you decide to buy this.

C) The software for controlling the pad from a computer will not work for me and despite Korg having sent me a software update it still will not work. That said I find it easier to alter settings on the pad itself.

I have not used another type of drum pad so I cannot comment on exactly how good this is compared to others( I bought it based on various reviews and a quick try out in the shop)but I must say I am very impressed with it.

In the end i returned the trigger pad. didn't feel comfortable with it. Not sturdy enough for me to bang away at. So i swaped it for the maudio axium 49. Nice to have a big set of midi keys, had to replace the tiny vocoder that was substituing. And got eight pads and pleanty of faders that the trigger pad offered.

So, if you do want pads, i would go for the axium. Just a wee bit more but more machine for nearly the same price.

I have a Trigger Finger as well. I am only partailly satisfied. I dont like the fact it came with ZERO hard copy documentation, im not a fan of PDF file only.
Dont expect it to feel to solid if you put in a mic stand. On the table it works okay. M-Audio Enigma software lacks luster and never seems to transmit acurately. However the pads feel pretty good and all the knobs assign easily within logic to whatever parameters you want.

In hindsight i wish I would have waited a month and got the Akai MPD 24.
However I like the options of the Trigger Finger more than the Akai MPD-16.

I don't think you need a hard copy. Any preset programming can be done via Enigma. It makes sense that there very little documentation. Also, a pdf is easier to search and get information out of.

I sort of agree. The TF is pretty sturdy, but it's definitely not a tank.

The software works perfectly for me.

Compared to a few years ago, I am greatful for companies that make software that can allow you to create presets. I have the FCB1010, and I almost killed that thing when I got it. I don't want to waste my life creating presets (usually the process is convoluted and non-intuitive) on the midi controller.

One of the selling points for me was the controlling software (Enigma).
