Can I rename my Time Machine backup disc once I have already used it for backups?

Just wondered if renaming the hard drive I have been using for my Time Machine backups will mess up the backups I already have on the drive(?) I would continue to use the drive in the same way, just wanted to name it something different.

Mac mini, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)

Unfortunately, to my understanding once the Time Machine backups have been initiated, you cannot change the names. Also, I believe changing the default name of the backups might cause some errors down the road. Unless you are bent on really changing the name, purchase some external drives and test it out before messing with your current back ups. We don't want any accidents happening 🙂
