Q: Screen corruption

I posted this question in the Yosemite forum, but thought I'd try here as it may be specific to the Mac Mini.

I have a 2014 Mac Mini running Yosemite.  Occasionally the screen gets corrupted, and I have to sleep the computer and wake it again to correct it.  Anyone else see this issue?

The following thread contains wake from sleep display issues and includes a couple of posts regarding distorted/corrupted screen instances.  I've seen no exact cure as of yet.

Don't like the look of that.  It may not be the Mac - have you checked the lead connections to the monitor.  If you have a dodgy cable somewhere or a lead that maybe has a bent pin and is shorting - this would present the problem you have.  My money is on the monitor and lead connector.

Except that sleeping the computer and waking fixes the issue.  Pretty sure it's not a cable issue.  In the thread above, there are a number of others who have described the exact same issue, so it seems its some sort of display driver bug.

I posted yesterday to: Mac mini 2014 won't wake monitor via HDMI that I see the distortion when I wake the my 2014 Mini from sleep. (I have an LCD VGA monitor connected to the Mini using a VGA to mini display port adapter.) To get it to display properly, I have to either put it to sleep again and wake it up, logout and login, or unplug the display port adapter and plug it back in. The monitor doesn't have this problem when connected to my old MacBook Pro.

Have you or anyone else had the distortion resolved since installing the 10.10.2 update?

Before 10.10.2, my Mac mini wouldn't wake the monitor when it came out of sleep. Now it wakes the monitor, but it displays static until I press the mode button and it cycles to VGA and back to digital. Only then is the display restored.

I'm  not sure if the latest update has fixed the issue.  I've discovered that I can avoid it by not sleeping the computer, only the display.  As soon as I switched "allow computer to sleep" to "never", I have not experienced the corrupt display again.  This means that while the display sleeps, my Mac Mini never sleeps.  Power draw is pretty low on a Mac Mini, so I'm not too concerned with it never sleeping.  I would like it though if Apple fixed this bug.

To anyone who is still experiencing the sleep/wake issue with a VGA to MDP connection and your Mini is still under warranty, I would recommend you open a case with Apple Support if you haven't already done so. The more customers they hear from, the more likely they'll provide a fix as was done with the HDMI connection. Thanks.

My issue is with thunderbolt to DVI.  When did the fix roll out for HDMI?

The HDMI sleep/wake issue was resolved with the Yosemite 10.10.2 update last week.

I just bought my Mac Mini on Saturday and it has the sleep/wake issue.  It also has the distorted image issue.  We have 2 monitors, one connected by HDMI and one connected by VGA with adaptor.  The HDMI has the sleep/wake issue but the other doesn't.  Both have the distorted image after sleep issue.  I found that if you go into Displays in the system preferences and click on the "colors" button, the display goes back to normal.  Guess I'll add my complaint to the list at Apple Support.

If you do an Apple software update to 10.10.2, it should correct the sleep/wake issue for the HDMI connection. I'm still hoping for a fix for the VGA screen color distortion. I encourage you to open a case for the VGA color distortion for sure. The more they hear this is a problem, the more likely they'll provide a fix.

My Mini already has the 10.10.2 update and it still has the sleep/wake problem with the HDMI connection.  I'm going to connect it with the VGA connection until they get it fixed.  I will definitely be opening a case.
