recover deleted files in icloud

I have placed a page file into iCloud. I opened the file through the recent document option. I believe it to have been the file I placed on iCloud. While working on it, I got an e-mail that someone used access to my icloud. Not thinking I deleted the only file I had on there, which was the one I was working on.

When I have deleted a file in iCloud, how can I restore that file if it was never saved on my computer, but on in iCloud itself?

it also seems to me that if i drag something over to iCloud drive it goes there but does not remain on my HD?

thanx

If you drag a file to iCloud Drive it will move there. If you want a safety copy during the upload, copy to iCloud Drive and not move.

But after you moved afield to iCloud Drive and the upload is complete, your Mac will download a shadow copy of your document to your user library in ~/Library/Mobile Documents, and that is what will be backed up by Time Machine.

If you are using the latest Yosemite version 10.10.2, you can restore from Time Machine by entering Time Machine with iCloud Drive selected in the Finder.

i don't understand how to do this. i opened TM and then clicked on iCloud but all i get is what was left in iCloud and not the files that were deleted. i need access to the the deleted files in order to bring them back to my HD.

the instructions from WChurchill still do not make any sense to me as i explained in my first post to you as with TM there is no access to the supposed 'library' which would have saved in Mobile docs? a copy of what i had deleted.

thanx

And did you back in time in the starters display by clicking to an earlier time in the time line to the right?

When you enter Time Machine, it will you show the drive as it is now, you go back in time to earlier backups by clicking the Time Line. You should see your back ups there, have Time Machine has been set up and running, while you had your documents in iCloud.

i don't leave TM on always and backup about once a week. however i lost on iCloud a lot from TextEdit,Pages, & Preview.

i assume Pages is backed up automatically with the other two programs mentioned above. However the Pages doc i want i just saved under a name and assumed it would be on my HD and i did not do anything else than save it like any other doc one would save. That seems to be the crux of the problem and i was given to understand that even if it is save to iCloud a copy remains on the HD, at least that is what i understood from WChurchill.

All the files {about 10gb} which were on my iCloud disappeared and do not show up in TM. So i guess i have lost them forever.

Thanx.

Hey y'all, I was poking around iCloud.com earlier today and found something interesting. I don't know when they introduced this feature, but you can now recover files deleted from iCloud Drive at iCloud.com. Just log in to iCloud.com and go to Settings > Data & Security > Recover Documents. You only have 30 days from when the file was deleted to do this is what it looks like from the website, so that time may have passed for some files, but at least we have more options now.
