Jan 6, 2015 10:33 PM in response to Canarifulby John Galt,A number of phenomena can cause this to occur, including a failed battery that expands, exerting pressure on the trackpad from beneath it. Check your battery's condition.
Also, if it occurs only when you are using an aftermarket power adapter, it should be replaced with a genuine Apple power adapter:

Jan 6, 2015 10:52 PM in response to Canarifulby John Galt,Perform an SMC reset. Be sure to read the procedure carefully and follow all the steps exactly as written, even if they seem inapplicable or trivial.
Bluetooth interference is another potential cause. Turn off Bluetooth and determine if the problem persists.

Jan 24, 2015 12:53 PM in response to John Galtby bigalmackay,I had exactly the same problem with my Macbook Pro - mouse pointer with a mind of its own, folders opening spontaneously etc etc. For 2 weeks it was driving me nuts. Tried everything until I came across a site that advocated slapping the trackpad with an open hand. Has worked perfectly ever since!
