I cannot install the language pack CDs for Rosetta Stone.

I'm trying to install the language packs of my Rosetta Stone package. The application CD installed ok, and it is running. You need to then install the language CD from inside that application. When I "add language CD", I get the error "You must have administrative permissions to use this feature." I've set all permissions for all groups the "read & write" on both the Rosetta Stone app file and the content folders. I've called Rosetta Stone and they tell me this is an Apple problem. Help please! I'm getting really, really frustrated with this!

I'm on an iMac, OS X 10.9.5

Thanks.

I'm afraid looking at the folders and permissions you've added to your post I cannot really tell what you are showing me. I have version 4 so to is possible that there have been changes since version 3 and if that is the case then I really won;t be of much help.

However I just want to make sure you looked in the correct place for the Language Training folder, as I can't see the compete path for any of the folders.

So this is where it is in version 4 (starting at the root level)

User uploaded file

is that were you looked?

<EDIT>

Looking at version 3 documentation online I see they mention a Rosetta Stone manager server. Is that something that you have ?

Just install it from an admin account. Once installed all users (admin and non-admin) will be able to access them.

However depending on just what you did and how you did it when you "set all permissions for all groups the "read & write" on both the Rosetta Stone app file and the content folders."

you may encounter problems. You may want to uninstall it all and start from scratch doing the complete install from an admin account.

I have Rosetta Stone installed here and it's always installed without problem. In fact as a test just now I deleted the level 5 course and reinstalled in from a non-admin account and it worked.

Tracking down where the language files are stored I found they are in /Library/Application Support/Rosetta Stone/Language Training If you go to that folder and do a get info on it what permissions do you see?

On my system that folder and all folders under it are R&W for everyone. Don;t know why your system is not setup the same. You could try removing the /Library/Application\ Support/Rosetta Stone folder and then reinstalling the app which is when this folder gets created. It should create it with the right permissions or you can try changing the permissions on the folders starting at /Library/Application Support/Rosetta Stone/Language Training but it would be really nice to know why this failed in the first place.

Frank,

so, I did search for the directory Language Training - it doesn't exist on my system. As an experiment, I manually added the directory and gave it read/write permissions. Rosetta still couldn't install the language CD. I've cut and pasted the permissions below of the Rosetta Stone directory as well as the bin directory. I wonder if I'm having this problem because I'm trying to install Rosetta Stone Version 3? That is the latest version that allows for homeschooling.

next I'm going to try installing it from a user (non-admin) account

Jan 8, 2015 7:18 PM in response to PHH925

ok - tried from the user account with no luck. However, I noticed that when I removed Rosetta Stone each time, the directory structure remained on the hard drive. So I wiped every piece of evidence I could find that Rosetta Stone had been installed, including the receipts, directories, etc. then I went to a different admin account (that has less overhead), and re-installed the application. This time it actually installed the language pack - yay!

Unfortunately, I still can't tell you why it installed this time and not the others. The permissions on the directories installed are as above. The only difference is that instead of the Language Training directory, there is a Content directory.

Thank you so much for your help with this!
