Q: Wifi connection fails everytime I move more than 1m away from the router

Hi hello there so before I went on holiday in 2014 my MacBook Pro was working perfectly, when I returned, my wifi was never the same. I have been experiencing this problem for about 6 months now and I have not found any solution to the problem despite googling tons of things and performing very technical stuff on my poor laptop here. Basically the problem is my wifi, it works perfectly when I am within a metre of the routers presence, but drops when I move further away from it. The router is the not the problem as every other device works fine with it, it is just my laptop. This problem arises with every other router that I've tried to connect to.

I have tried resetting the PRAM and the SMC, removing network configuration and preference files, and I've tried troubleshooting millions of times. Nothing makes a difference. Can someone please help me? Thank you

MacBook Pro (15-inch Mid 2012), OS X Yosemite (10.10.1)

    Hi lottepaat,

I'm sorry to hear you have been having such ongoing issues with your WiFi connection; I know how frustrating that can be. It sounds like you have been on the right troubleshooting track. One thing you might try, if you haven't already, would be to try to see what is happening when the WiFi connection is working (within a meter of the router). You can use the Performance function in Wireless Diagnostics > Utilities to monitor the link performance in realtime, then see what happens as you slowly move the computer away from the router. You may find the following article helpful (the section on the Utilities is toward the bottom half):
