how do I find the recovery key after the encryption?

I have an Air laptop and I just installed Yosemite and then I got a message to encrypt, so I said yes.... then it said I had to have a password or a recovery key, but I don't know how to find the 'recovery key'.

I have seen other reports of the recovery key not being given out when FileVault is turned on as a part of the Yosemite upgrade.

Following is how it works (and how it worked for me) when turning on FileVault normally (i.e., not when asked when upgrading to Yosemite): OS X: About FileVault 2 - Apple Support

One option would be to turn off FileVault, wait for it to decrypt and then turn it back on again. See the "Changing your Recovery Key" section of the above link.
