Whatsapp - stuck on waiting or install

So I had some problems with my Whatsapp crashing so did a soft reset.

On starting up again the app asked me to input my phone number and then is said it was out of date and needed to be updated.

I did this but then it got stuck on 'waiting'.

Since then I have:

- done soft resets

- logged out and in of the app store

- taken the app off and on via iTunes. It starts to install it but then gets stuck on install. Deleting the app takes it back to 'waiting'

- VERY belatedly upgraded my IoS to 6 from 5

- downloaded Whatsapp update from macbook and tried to install it from there. Same issue

- torn my little remaining hair out

Any ideas? Should I try 'rest all settings'?

First, reset all settings from Settings > General > Reset

Then I would make a backup using iTunes, resetting to factory settings and restoring from your backup. I have seen that error but it was caused due to developer certificates, if you are not an app developer that does not apply.

Had the same problem and tried all the suggested solutions in this thread but lastly I solved it by persistently clicking the download button several times for the app in the itunes store until it started downloading. I would recommend trying the other procedures mentioned first just to clear things up. It seems to me that this might be a server "irresponsiveness" issue.
